Mix & Malt has been one of my favourite cocktail bars in Seoul since I discovered it last Summer. With its gorgeous deck outside it’s the perfect place to soak up the rays and enjoy a libation or two. As well as the gorgeous outdoor patio they also have a lovely fireplace upstairs with ample seating for when the weather turns chilly.
Even though it’s not hot, hot, hot right now, the patio is still the place to be seen and their awesome outdoor heater and fabulous cape style blankets will ensure you don’t get too cold. The menu also comes on an ipad which I thought was pretty darn cool.
To kick things off I started with one of my all time favourite cocktails, the Raspberry Mojito (11,000), while my favourite vegan and best gal pal Vanessa kicked it off with the Ginger Mojito (11,000). These are exceptionally well made, and an absolute steal at the price, usually they are at least 5,000 more for a mojito of the same caliber. They have a whole host of choices and you’d be mad not to try one.
I decided to wander off the beaten track for my second drink and try the Beet Flower (13,900). A modern concoction of beety goodness, bourbon, strawberry and tonic water. Very refreshing without being too sweet. And for an added bonus, beetroot is supposed to cure the liver which makes this drink the perfect healthy choice.
The Jardin Green (11,900). A mix of cucumber, Earl Grey Gin, Elderflower, soda, and lemon juice. The perfect garden party thirst quencher, I felt terribly grown up drinking this one. It’s certainly got a hell of kick, although I’m sure any self respecting gin lush could handle it.
We were getting pretty damn tipsy by this point so couldn’t say no to trying the lasagne (13,900). I’m damn fussy when it comes to lasagne especially since I make an amazing one myself! The sauce was mourishly tasty and full of ground beef. Inside was a hidden layer of ricotta cheese and the whole thing was smothered in mozzarella. It was pure Italian-American goodness and one of the best lasagnes I’ve eaten in Seoul, the fact you can have a killer cocktail on the side makes it aces in my book.
The cocktails are absolutely killer at Mix & Malt thanks to their amazing bar tender, however he usually starts work at 5pm, so come after then to take advantage of the full menu. They are open for brunch on weekends during the day and offer a smaller menu of choice brunch time drinks like the Bloody Mary. What sets Mix and Malt’s Bloody Mary apart from all others is the fact it comes with a tiny BLT sandwich garnish which tasted amazing. It was absolutely kick ass and a brunch must.
Mix & Malt is located at 3 Changgyeonggung-ro 29gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul. To get there take a train to Hyehwa Station (line 4) and come out of exit 4 and take left and walk to the end of the street. Once you reach the end of the road take a right and go across the crossing towards Dunkin Donuts and take the alleyway to the left hand side.
