I do love a good pop up, a chance to try something new for a limited time only. I wrote about Bruworks last year, the only company in Korea making their own ultra fashionable Nitro Coffee. And if damn good coffee wasn’t enough a reason to visit the pop up they have also teamed up with Pick A Bagel to bring proper NYC bagels to the Gyeongridan neighbourhood.
The pop up will be open for the next six months and is located on the second floor above Heaven for a G in the alleyway where Magpie and The Bakers Table are. The new upstairs cafe is sleek and minimalist, and has been decked out with crates and sanded wood for a fresh take on the hipster style look that one can expect on this street.
The coffee menu is cut above what you’d find in most coffee shops around town, the main pull is their 5 different blends of Nitro Coffee, as well as cold brew, and hand drip made with freshly ground beans. Along with the coffees there is kombucha, cold brew tea, and a couple of craft beers. The coffees are all priced at a very reasonable 4,500 – 5,000 won. I was lucky enough to get a sneak preview yesterday and tried a Nitro coffee and was blown away by how smooth it was. We also enjoyed a hot hand drip Indonesian Mandhelling coffee which was again very nicely balanced.
All that coffee made me hungry, luckily the bagels were just coming out of the oven. NYC’s Pick A Bagel will be serving their full menu at the Pop Up – Bagels are priced at only 2,000 each and cream cheese varies from 2,000 – 3,000 depending on the flavour. I’ve been obsessed with the bagels ever since I visited the location in Apgujeong and I can attest to how good they are. They also have a more filling variety of sandwich type bagels, like the smoked salmon (9,000) which comes with onion, tomatoes and capers.
The pop-up opens today from 8am – late and for opening weekend (Friday 4th March – Sunday 6th March) Bruworks Pick A bagel Pop Up will be offering a special deal of a Nitro Coffee and a Bagel and cream cheese for only 5,500 won if you you share and like their facebook page.
Bruworks & Pick A Bagel pop up cafe is located at 2F, 625 Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. To get there take a train to Noksapyeong station (line 6) and come out of exit 2 and walk straight down past the entrance leading to Haebangchon and go over the pedestrian bridge above the road. Take the elevator down and walk straight down the alley on your left. The Bruworks & Pick A Bagel pop up is on the right hand side, about half way down, on the second floor above Heaven for a G. For more information about the pop up you can call them on 010-75419977 or check out their facebook page. They are open from 8am-late on weekdays and 9am – late on weekends.
