While I may be off travelling for the next few weeks, I absolutely have no plans to leave you all high and dry. I have visited many a restaurant in the past few months, and have plenty of content to keep you guys happy while I am away. One such restaurant is Vertex, which is place that I have enjoyed for many years. I can’t even tell you how many nights I have eaten their teriyaki chicken to go, thanks to their amazing free delivery. Well the place has not only relocated to new premises here in Itaewon, making it perfect for me, it was also taken over by new owners. I honestly was a bit concerned once I found that out, but as soon as I tasted that chicken, my fears were proved wrong.
The new location is round the corner from Braai Republic, in behind the back alleyways behind Mcdonald’s. The location while still small compared to most restaurants in town, is huge in comparison to the HBC location. They have seating for about 20 inside, and while it still is a humble and low key place, it is a big step up from their previous digs.
Whilst the place is bigger the menu has stayed the same. You can choose between chicken, or a chicken and shrimp combo which comes with rice and veggies. You then choose your sauce, which comes in three varieties, teriyaki, pepper and yum yum. There are also three sizes available, sizes Entree, Plus and Platter. We opted for the Chicken Teriyaki Entree (7,700) and the Pepper Shrimp Combo Entree (11,000). I have had both sauces before and honestly find it hard to choose which one I like best. The teriyaki is a touch on the sweeter side, whilst the pepper was slightly saltier and a carried a bit of a kick. Neither has a high heat until you add the accompanying chili sauce, which should be added at your own risk. The shrimp on top of the chicken are plump and juicy, and grilled well. They no longer offer the plain shrimp platter, but the tender juicy chicken is great by itself or as part of the combo. The veggies are super crunchy despite being cooked and the rice underneath makes the bowls hearty and filling. All in all it makes a a great meal for lunch or dinner.
Overall I was thrilled to find that Vertex tasted just as good as before. The new location is much more convenient, and the prices are amazing. It is cheap and tasty in all right ways, and very filling. In an Itaewon where prices seem to be climbing sky high, Vertex Chicken is a steal. Which is why I included it as one of top 10 eats for under 10,000 won.
Vertex is located at 63-46 Itaewon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. To get there take a train to Itaewon Station and come out of exit 4. Walk straight until you reach the left hand turning just before McDonalds. Walk straight down this street, following the road past the crossing. You will see Vertex Chicken on the left hand side, a few doors down from Braai Republic. For more information you can call them on 02 790 9292 or check out their facebook page.
