I love a Magnum, especially the white chocolate ones. It is something me and my darling hubby bonded over. Korea brought out our favourite ice creams a few years back, however our beloved white ones were only sold in multi packs in the supermarket and were swiftly discontinued leaving only the dark and almond varieties. So when I saw that the ‘Design your Own’ Magnum Pop Up had finally come to Seoul I was truly jubilant. Especially after missing the London pop up for the past three summers, due to an overly packed schedule.
The Magnum Seoul store is located right on the main Gangnam street, and has a very opulent design. Clearly no expense has been spared and it fits right in with its surroundings. The place is actually a cafe and has a variety of drinks, cake and desserts. However it is the design your own ice-cream bar (5,600) that is the main event. First you choose your ice cream bar base, the choices are chocolate or vanilla. Second comes the chocolate coating, white, milk, or dark. Next you can choose three toppings, then comes another chocolate drizzle of white, milk or dark chocolate. Finally you choose if you want white or dark magnum coins. At 5,600 won each, I think it is really well priced as I have seen them costing almost double the price in other cities around the world. The cafe also has an ample amount of seating inside, and light boxes in which you can use to take photographs of your edible work of art.
For my Magnum I ordered the vanilla ice cream, with white chocolate coating, topped with dried raspberries, white chocolate curls, toasted coconut, milk chocolate drizzle, and white chocolate Magnum coins. I was impressed with how much there was to choose from, you can come up with as many different combinations as you can think of. My white chocolate and raspberry combo was amazing. It was just as good as a normal white magnum if not better. I loved the extra toppings which added an extra texture and flavour. My chocoholic companion went for the chocolate ice cream, with milk chocolate coating, cocoa nibs, roasted almonds, white chocolate curls, truffle salt, and milk chocolate Magnum coins. I didn’t try this one, but he loved it. Also a little tip if you get truffle salt you get to have four toppings! Overall I loved this new store and I will certainly be stopping by again the next time I am in Gangnam.
Magnum Seoul is located at 455 Gangnam-daero, Seocho-gu, Seoul. To get there take a train to Sinonhyeon Station (line 9) and come out of exit 6. Walk straight and you will see Magnum Seoul just ahead on the right hand side. Alternatively you can walk from Gangnam station exit 10. I can’t seem to find any further information about the store on social media, however most of the other city pop ups seem to run right through the summer to early September. If I find more details I will update the article.
