I’m fairly certain that all my regular readers are well aware of my lust for ice-cream these days. It’s actually getting quite out of control, as these lovely luxury ice-creams run quite high. Thankfully they are rich and creamy so one does the job.

I’ve been on a mission to dig out the tastiest frozen treats in Seoul, so I knew I was going to have to bite the bullet sooner or later and leave the loving sanctuary that is Itaewon-dong and head over to Fell + Cole in Hongdae. I’m not a huge fan of Hongdae so wasn’t relishing the trip, however luckily for me I checked their facebook page and found they had opened a brand new branch in Jong-no which was terribly easy for me to visit.

They have about 12 flavours which change daily. They all have crazy names like Busan Seagull, Corny White, and Youth Potion No.6. If you want to find out the flavours before you head to the parlour then they post them daily on their facebook page. However if you like a little mystery in your life as I do, head on over and just try them all until you find one that suits your fancy. I think we were rather lucky in this regard as there were no other customers, I’m thinking on a hot and sunny Saturday trying 6 may be frowned upon, at least by those waiting in the queue.

So after trying the numerous different ones I settled upon Lemon Frozen Yogurt (5,200). The Fat Boyfriend is a fan of all things, fruity, zesty and sour. So this really ticked all the boxes for him and I knew it would have to be one of the two we ordered. It was rich, creamy, sweet, and zingy all at the same time. Pure poetry in ice-cream form. No one could turn down that beauty on a hot day.

I decided upon the Tough Cookie (5,200). A bit of a dull choice for a foodie, but I couldn’t seem to decide between the others. The Strawberry was too mild, the Burnt Caramel too sweet, the Love Potion a strange blend of sesame and something. So the Tough Cookie was just right, (I think I may have been channeling Goldilocks)! It was a creamy ice-cream filled with cookie nuggets.

On their website they have a huge range of sorbets on the menu, but sadly they had none at the Jong-no store, which was very upsetting as I had brought along my friend Vanessa from Vegan Beats website to enjoy the wealth. So she left with an empty tummy. However I was quite happy and shall certainly pay another visit, next time I am in the area.

Fell + Cole have three locations in Seoul, one in Hongdae, One in Apgujeong and one in Jong-no. I visited the Jong-no branch. To get there take a train to Jonggak station (line 1). Aim to come out exit 1(but you can’t at the moment due to construction) so take exit 2 and double back on yourself. The entrance to the Grand Seoul Mall is right there in front of you. Fell + Cole is down one level on B1. You can’t miss it. For more information you can call on 02-2158-7909, or check out their website or facebook page.

Ah hummus, there is nothing like a big tub with pita bread or chips while watching a movie. Sadly too many people in Korea, are living a life without hummus. I can’t bear to think about the suffering that some of you have to bear, constantly longing for this delicious yet healthy dip. For those living in and around Itaewon, finding hummus is no problem at all. You can even buy my hummus if you are lucky enough to live in Hae Bang Chon. But what about everyone else? You can make your own of course, check out my recipes here or here. But for some, all that soaking and blending is just too much hard work. You shouldn’t be deprived of all that chickpea goodness just because your lazy. Don’t worry salvation is here in the form of Hummus In Korea.

Hummus in Korea, delivers hummus directly to your door. Luckily for us delivery companies are setting up all the time, bringing us more and more of the foods that we miss from home. So now you can have your hummus delivered, and eat it too. So it was about time I got to try some of this fabulous hummus. Coming in 6 delicious flavours (garlic, red pepper, olive, egg plant, jalapeno and spicy), there is something for everyone. Prices vary between 5,550 – 7,000. You can buy packs of 4 (24,000) to save money or just choose your favourites.

I’m not going to lie, I tried five. After all, fat girls don’t get fat by just choosing one flavour. They were all good, but here are my favourite 3.

My top spot is a close call but I would have to give it to the roasted red pepper. A glorious orange colour and delicious taste of roasted red peppers throughout. Couldn’t get enough of this one. It was just as tasty as I hoped it would be.

Second place was surprisingly jalapeno heaven. It was the one I was least looking forward to, and thought I could just palm it off on my boyfriend. However after one fingerful, I knew he wouldn’t be getting any. It had the essence and flavour of jalapeno without being too hot or spicy. It was perfectly mild and delicious. In fact I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this one since and will have to try having a go at making my own. Be sure to add this one to your order.

My third favourite was probably the crazy for garlic. The regular hummus we all know and love with extra garlic. It was well balanced and the garlic was not at all over bearing, like some can be.

To make things even better for you, hummus in Korea sell pita bread too. Sold in packs of 1 for 1,500 or 3 for 4,000 don’t forget to add a few to your order.

Fat girl I hear you cry, how can we get our hands on this wondrous hummus? Well here’s how. Click here to get to the website, fill out the form and click place order. Do a simple bank transfer to pay and sit back and relax while you wait for your delicious delivery. Delivery costs 4,500 and they deliver Tuesday- Friday and it generally takes between 24-48 hours. Pretty cool right. Visit the website for more details and to place orders.

Another day another cupcake store. Oh how I enjoy a tiny cake or six. They are so perfect I could eat about 50 given a chance. Last week when my good friend Susan took me out for my birthday dinner to Deli Heinzburg, (review coming soon) to celebrate my birthday. En route we passed this adorable little store and I couldn’t contain my excitement and had to venture in for cupcake or two for dessert. (Ok, I had three, but it was my birthday. Technically I had 3, and half of Susan’s, but it was my birthday and hangover Monday).

My first and possibly favourite cupcake was the Orange (4,500). A delicious orange flavoured cupcake with an orange Swiss meringue butter cream, at least it tasted like Swiss meringue butter cream. It was light, moist, and full of fruity flavour. It was also topped with a delightful macaroon.

My next choice was a strawberry cupcake (4,500). Once again a lovely strawberry cupcake, topped with a strawberry frosting. I really like the frosting here, its light and sweet and creamy. Although usually my usual frosting of choice is butter cream this one still hits the spot. They have a good ratio of frosting to cake.

Third choice was my usual favourite the red velvet (4,500). The cake was very rich and chocolatey and the frosting was lovely and light. Still not the best red velvet I have had in Seoul but it was pretty damn good. I’m pretty sure I would get this one again, as the macaroon is so nice. They also had mini layered red velvet cakes which I would like to try next time too.

Susan ordered the Carrot cupcake (4,500) A carrot and cinnamon sponge with raisins in, which I could have lived without. The frosting was nice though and it was topped with an adorable carrot made from fondant. Susan gave it the thumbs up and if you like carrot cake I am sure it wouldn’t disappoint.

As well as the large variety of cupcakes they also sell macaroons, coffee, and other drinks. The also have a loyalty card, buy 10 get one free. In true glutinous style we tried to ask for a free service cupcake but they politely refused despite the lateness of the hour. Gentle lady Cupcakes is located at 533-14 Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. To get there take a train to Sinsa station (line 3). Come out of exit 8 and walk straight until you get to Tous Le Jours and make a left. Keep walking straight along that road until you reach the Fossil store. Take a left just after and you should see Gentle Lady Cupcake on your right. You can also call them on 02-790-0259 if my directions are less than perfect.

I think you may know by now that I love a cupcake or 3. So imagine my delight when after moving to Hae Bang Chon, I discovered that mere meters from my house there was a delightful little cake shop. However sadly for me it hadn’t opened yet and it has now moved up to Itaewon. I spent months walking past admiring the beautiful mixers inside wondering when oh when would I finally be able to buy some cakes. They finally opened a few months ago now, but I have just only gotten around to writing a post. However I wanted to be very thorough dear reader, so I made it my business to try as many of the goodies as possible (for purely professional reasons of course).

The first cupcake of choice is the Snickers Cupcake (4,500). This was quite a delight, chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting, slices of snickers, and drizzled with caramel sauce. This is one for those of you with a sweet tooth. If you like snickers I’m sure you will find it heavenly.

The Maple Bacon Cupcake (4,500) a cinnamon cupcake with pieces of bacon mixed into the batter. Topped with maple frosting with a slice of bacon. This has a nice balance of salty and sweet, it shouldn’t work but it does. I will certainly be ordering this one again. From now on I’ll be adding bacon to all my desserts. Bacon trifle anyone?

Red Velvet (4,500) Red velvet is one of my absolute favourite flavors so I was looking forward to it. The cake has that sourness that one comes to expect from a red velvet cake. The frosting is very sweet and cheesy though. It’s a bit runny for me. It’s fine but not the best I’ve had in Korea.

On to the root beer float (4,500) I recently tried root beer for the first time and this cupcake is certainly reminiscent of it. The cake is root beer flavoured while the frosting is very sweet. It’s a good combination and makes a nice alternative to the more traditional flavours.

Pumpkin (4,500)I didn’t choose this one I got it for free. It’s a pumpkin spiced cake with pumpkin frosting. This one isn’t really my cup of tea, but if you like cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin then give it a bash. I did enjoy the squidgy little pumpkin on the top though.

Vanilla (4,500) I love vanilla cupcakes and they are usually my go to choice. This one had a nice light vanilla cake with a sweet vanilla frosting. It was nice enough and looked perfect but it wasn’t a patch on the one in Life is just a cup of cake up in Itaewon.

Overall I am thrilled that Sugar Daddy has opened on my door step. They have a wide variety of cupcakes with lots of fun flavours. I am very keen to try the Key lime and the New York Cheesecake flavours very soon. I have also been very lucky, as every time I have bought two I have received a third one for free (assah)! So in this case it’s better to buy an extra one.

Sugar Daddy is located in the arcade just next to Mcdonalds in Itaewon. To get there take a train to Noksapyeong station (line 6) . Walk straight out of exit 3 and cross the road towards Itaewon. Sugar Daddy is on is on your right just after Mcdonalds inside the little shopping arcade. You can call on 010-3630-0723 if you require any further information.
