One thing that I am truly loving about living in London is all the amazing food markets. The entire city is absolutely bustling with them. So much so that the food markets have burst at the seams and spilled into nearby streets. One such market is the street food market at Petticoat Lane just around the corner from Spitalfields. I ventured there on a weekday lunch time with my Chubby Hubby who works just around the corner. We found the place to be positively packed, and plenty of different food stalls to choose from. We headed to Satay Street who got in touch with us and invited us down to give them a try.
The menu at Satay Street is pretty simple as there three are choices; Chicken Satay, Chicken Curry, or Tofu. You then choose how it is served with either salad, rice, bao buns, or in a wrap. There are also two sizes available, regular and large. Since my beloved is still on his Keto diet he went for Chicken Satay with Salad £7 in the large size, while I had the Chicken Satay Bao Buns £7. Neither of us fancied the tofu, but the curry looked and smelled divine.
The Chicken Satay itself was absolutely phenomenal. Other than those I ate in Malaysia it is by far the best satay I have ever eaten. The satay was in a glorious peanut sauce that had the perfect blend of creaminess with just a tiny little spicy kick and slight sourness. On top the salad it was fantastic, there was plenty of meat and greens in the portion. If you are able to eat carbs this would be amazing with rice too as the grains would soak up all that delicious sauce.
Since I’m not on a carb-free diet I decided to take full advantage of the situation and went for the Bao Buns. The sweet soft little steamed buns were stuffed to the gills with more of the tantalizing and tender chicken, along with salad and more of that orgasmic satay sauce. It is easy to see why there was such a long queue when we got there.
Overall I though Satay Street was amazing. The flavours were mind blowing and the portion size for the price was just excellent. Since it is a street stall there is sadly no seating, so find a corner or piece of pavement to hunker down on to enjoy your lunch. There are also lots of other delicious looks stalls nearby if you fancy dessert or seconds.
