Is there anything more joyful in life than cake? And Butter Believe it near Spitalfields is one of the prettiest places around to appreciate it. The adorable old-timey cake shop is located just across from one of the most incredible food markets in east London. The shop is painted a beautiful buttery yellow, however despite its bright and vibrant colour, you are more likely to smell it before you see it. The intoxicating aroma of cakes and cookies wafts through the East London streets luring in passersby who can’t help but wonder what smells so good.

The shop itself is just as charming once you get inside, made up of two small rooms that look like they have barely changed in the past 100 years, even the wooden floors are original. The place is owned and ran by Chef Haya and her husband who have a passion for all things sweet like I have never seen before. They have made this store their life keeping it open for almost 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This is shop where you are going to want to sit down and enjoy a tea or coffee, luckily Butter Believe It has a huge menu. I was feeling like having something a little bit different so ordered the Dirty Chai (£3.50). It was deliciously rich and flavourful without being too sweet or overpowering the desserts.

I’m not sure how you even begin to choose one flavour from the beautiful array of cakes that they offer. I wanted a slice of each, but since that wasn’t an option I finally settled on the beautiful pink Earl Risers (£5) an interesting take on a great British tradition. The earl grey infused sponge was layered with creamy, tangy raspberry and lemon zest filling, and was delicately finished with raspberries. The cake was moist yet had a delicate balance of sweetness and tea flavour. The most decadent thing about this slice is the extra swirls of lemony buttercream on the top which just add that extra sugary rush that you are looking for. It was fantastic and worth every penny.

There is no more famous cookie in London right now than the My Butter Half (£4), I think I have seen it over 100 times on all of my favourite foodie Instagram accounts. A peanut butter cookie unites with its other half, a red velvet cookie. This cookie is the best of both worlds, and perfect for someone like me who can never decide what to get. The chocolate chip and peanut butter half is wickedly rich and sweet, whilst the red velvet adds that slight buttermilky sourness that stops you getting overwhelmed with sugar. It is a tale of two halves indeed.

Overall I loved this cake shop. It is absolutely adorable and has the perfect blend of old and new. The shop is traditional to a fault, whilst while the cakes and desserts are very modern and incredibly tasty. If you are heading down to Spitalfields Market make sure this is on your list of places to try, I promise you wont regret it.
