Hannam-dong is located just down the street from Itaewon, but draws a higher end and somewhat cooler crowd, probably due to the fact it is just over the bridge from Sinsa. The neighbourhood is a myriad of little nooks and crannies all filed with small independent eateries, stores, and cafes. Come on a weekend and you’ll spot scores of people queuing to get in to the latest hotspot.
Tap Public – If you enjoy beer and technology then you are sure to love Tap Public. The bar boasts over 60 beer taps, all of which you can order by the 100ml. You get a little electronic bracelet which you scan to order your beer. It also tots up how much of each beer you have had, meaning you can try as many or as little you like.
Cheese Flo – If you are big cheese lover then you will certainly want to check out Cheese Flo. The restaurant-cum-deli makes all their own cheese, and showcases them in a variety of spectacular dishes. They also have a very large wine selection.
Mishmash – If you are short of time in Seoul and want to try a modern take on Korean cuisine this place is not to be missed. They offer several course menus based on your appetite where you can choose from a mishmash of dishes. My favourites include the fried gochu, galbi rib, and homemade ravioli.
Ob La Di – Seoul’s only cereal cafe is tucked away in the alleyways of Hannam. The whole place is filled to the brim with all kinds of cereal from around the world. You can buy them by the bowl with milk and ice cream, or in a smoothie or on top a variety of desserts. You can also buy a box to take home.
La Ferme – Probably Seoul’s most beautiful salad cafe. The whole place looks like a tropical rain forest inside. Their vibrant salad and hummus platters are not only beautiful but nutritious as well. They also serve a variety of freshly made juices and teas.
Ferry Roasters – Hannam
Old Ferry Donuts – If you enjoy a sweet treat with your coffee then Old Ferry Donuts is not to be missed. Their donuts come in both mini and large size, and all are sinfully good. Be sure to order the Donut Latte if you are looking for the perfect Instagram shot.
Salad Seller – Another cute little salad spot. Salad Seller offers a variety of salads, smoothies and juices. They have a large communal table in the middle which is perfect for large groups, or those who want to mingle.
1842 – This end of town has no shortage of fancy places. ,but this is one of my favourites. Ran by the Pilsner Urquell team this restaurant showcases Czech cuisine in a high end way. We tried their their tomahawk dry aged steak and pork knuckle both of which were fabulous.
